POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY AND SAPS HOST MAYORAL IMBIZO TO TACKLE GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND SOCIAL ISSUES IN MAKOTOPONG
Polokwane Municipality, in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS), is hosting a Mayoral Imbizo today to address Gender-Based Violence and other social issues affecting the community of Makotopong. The event is taking place at Makotopong Sports Ground.
Many community members attended the Imbizo to learn more about these important issues.
The program aims to address challenges faced by the community and to inform the community about the government services available to them. SAPS encouraged attendees to report any cases of abuse to ensure justice is served.
Representing the municipality, Member of Mayoral Committee on Community Safety, Cllr Joosuf Pemma explained why Makotopong was chosen for this campaign. He mentioned issues like lack of identification documents, gender-based violence, rape cases, teenage pregnancies and drug abuse.
Cllr Pemma urged stakeholders present to help the Makotopong community, saying, “Let’s work together to improve the lives of everyone in the community.”
The Department of Home Affairs, SAPS, and the Department of Health were also present to provide necessary services to the community.
