POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY WELCOMES NEW EMPLOYEES AND SHOWCASES PROGRESS ON UPGRADES OF FACILITIES

Polokwane – Thursday, 01 August 2024 | Today, Polokwane Municipality welcomed a new cohort of employees, recruited through the latest appointments and promotions. Executive Mayor, Cllr. Makoro John Mpe continues to emphasize the importance of building internal capacity by creating employment opportunities within the municipality. “We have removed the work experience requirement for all entry-level positions to support new graduates entering the workforce. Today, we welcome 19 recruits to the municipality, most of whom are youth.”

The Executive Mayor stressed that it is management’s responsibility to create a conducive environment for employee development. Training must be conducted by accredited institutions with integrity, and there must be programs to ensure employee development and the empowerment of women in strategic positions.

“For us, every worker is important irrespective of the position they occupy. Those who clean our streets are as important as the directors. It is not the position that you hold, but the level of passion in your work that makes you a quality employee.”

Cllr Mpe encouraged staff to treat residents with love, respect, and a smile. “A simple “How can I help you?” goes a long way in creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Our residents are the heart of our community, and we must serve them with excellence. Without our residents and our dedication to serving them, there would be no municipality. Your commitment to service is the foundation of our community.”

In addition to welcoming new employees, the Executive Mayor inspected municipal facilities, including the new Peter Mokaba Stadium, which has recently undergone a seeding process. The lawn is now fully developed, and the stadium is ready to host its first match of the season, an MTN8 fixture between Sekhukhune United FC and Cape Town FC on Saturday, 10 August 2024. The Seshego Stadium is also undergoing upgrades to enable it to host PSL matches.

The Executive Mayor also expressed condolences to the Montjane family, relatives, and friends on the passing of Kgothatso Montjane’s mother. The municipality received this sad news just before hosting an event to celebrate and welcome back Kgothatso Montjane from Wimbledon, along with President of Netball SA Cecilia Molokoane, PSL teams Sekhukhune United FC, Polokwane City FC, and Magesi FC, and Comrades Marathon runners.

Finally, the Executive Mayor inspected the rehabilitation of streets in the CBD, particularly Bodenstein and Church Streets, in preparation for the State of the Province Address by Limpopo Premier, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, at Jack Botes Hall on Friday, 2 August 2024.
