EXECUTIVE MAYOR HOPEFUL PHUTI MOLOTO WILL KEEP THE CITY’S LIGHTS SHINING BRIGHT

Polokwane, 07 Jan 2025 – Polokwane Municipality stands at the threshold of transformation as it welcomes its newly appointed Director of Energy Services, Mr. Phuti Jellico Moloto. With great anticipation, the municipality, led by Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe supported by MMC for Energy Services Cllr Nomonde Sivhabu, MMC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Special Programmes Cllr Tebele Jerry Mamabolo and Municipal Manager Ms Thuso Nemugumoni, unveiled this critical appointment, sparking a wave of optimism across the city.

Moloto’s journey to Polokwane is nothing short of remarkable. Having served in pivotal roles at Mogale City, City of Ekurhuleni and most recently, City of Tshwane, he brings a wealth of experience that is both vast and highly specialized. His reputation as a problem solver and innovator precedes him, earning accolades and performance awards that reflect his ability to lead under pressure.

The stakes have never been higher. Polokwane, an aspirant metropolitan municipality, faces significant challenges in its energy sector. Cable theft continues to plague the city, threatening critical infrastructure and public safety. Yet, amidst these trials, there is hope. The Executive Mayor’s confidence in Moloto’s expertise is sound. “With Mr. Moloto on board, we are certain the light at the end of the tunnel is within reach,” he declared.

Moloto’s mandate is clear: to revitalize the Energy Services Unit and ensure the city’s lights stay on. “Electricity, a cornerstone of municipal revenue, demands robust management and innovative strategies. Tasked with safeguarding Polokwane’s assets and improving service delivery, Moloto’s role is both critical and complex,” said the Executive Mayor.

A native of Ga-Rampuru, Moloto’s academic credentials include a BTech in Electrical Engineering and two National Diplomas in Public Management and Electrical Engineering. His practical experience, from overseeing regional technical operations in Tshwane to leading operations and maintenance in Ekurhuleni, equips him to navigate the intricate challenges ahead.

“We have made commendable progress, but we know we can do more,” remarked the Executive Mayor. “Moloto’s leadership will be the catalyst for that transformation. Indeed, his appointment features Polokwane’s commitment to attracting top talent, reflective of its ambition to ascend to metropolitan status.”

The collaboration between Moloto and MMC Nomonde Sivhabu will be pivotal. Together, they will tackle the twin priorities of infrastructure security and consistent street lighting, essential for both safety and economic growth. Residents’ expectations are high, but so is the belief in Moloto’s ability to deliver.

As he steps into this critical role, Moloto has the full support of the municipality’s leadership. The Executive Mayor said that his office, Mayoral Committee and executive team are pledged their backing. Cllr Makoro John Mpe is urging colleagues within the Energy Services Unit to rally behind their new leader.

Polokwane’s future shines brighter with this appointment. In a city striving for greatness, Phuti Jellico Moloto is poised to illuminate the path forward for all its residents.
