POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS ZK MATTHEWS AWARD BY THE ANC
Polokwane Municipality stands at the cusp of history with its recognition by the African National Congress (ANC) at the national level for its exceptional strides in political and administrative leadership to ensure sustainable and impactful service delivery to its communities.
This honor, bestowed upon the most deserving ANC-led Local Council and Caucus for 2024, is a momentous achievement, marking a first for Polokwane Municipality and setting a new benchmark for excellence in governance and service delivery.
During the ANC’s 113th Anniversary celebrations, marked by the January 8th Statement delivered by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Polokwane Municipality was bestowed the prestigious ZK Matthews Award. This accolade, which recognizes the most deserving ANC-led Local Council and Caucus for the year 2024, marks a historic milestone for the municipality.
Receiving the award on behalf of the municipality, Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe expressed profound gratitude to all contributors who made this achievement possible. “This recognition is a testimony to the collective effort of our dedicated workforce, our Councillors, traditional leaders, businesses, residents, and all stakeholders. It is through unity and shared commitment that we have reached this milestone,” he stated.
Executive Mayor Mpe further emphasized that this acknowledgment by the ANC serves as an inspiration for the municipality to redouble its efforts in serving the people of Polokwane with untiring dedication, love and respect.
“The ANC has outlined six priority actions for 2025 and we are pleased to report significant progress, particularly in priority number 2: fixing local government and ensuring water and energy security. While challenges persist, our municipality has implemented several measures to address these issues effectively. Among our initiatives are drilling additional boreholes, constructing water treatment plants and combating the escalating issue of cable theft which has disrupted essential services such as traffic lights. Furthermore, we are set to hire additional law enforcement officers to safeguard our critical service infrastructure.
“For us, the ZK Matthews Award is more than a celebration of past achievements; it is a solemn charge to build a future where every Polokwane resident enjoys equitable and sustainable services. The road ahead is not without obstacles, but with this recognition, the municipality is more determined than ever to rise to the occasion, ensuring that its legacy of excellence endures,” concluded the Executive Mayor.
Polokwane Municipality stands ready to face the challenges of tomorrow, confident in its vision and resolute in its mission to serve its people with integrity, determination and hope.
