A NEW WAVE OF HOPE AND HOPE AS NIRVANA SWIMMING POOL REOPENS
NIRVANA, 12 December 2024 – Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe officially reopened the Nirvana Swimming Pool today.
Nirvana Swimming Pool, once a bustling hub of recreation, was silenced in 2017 due to severe infrastructural decline. For years, its gates stood shut, a clear reminder of deferred dreams and unrealized potential. But the municipality refused to let the story end there.
Speaking at the reopening, Executive Mayor Mpe reflected on the challenges faced and the determination required to overcome them. “Today, we are turning the page,” he announced with resolve. “We are ushering in a new era of functionality, accessibility and municipal accountability.”
The revitalization project began in September 2023 and was completed in October 2024. It represents an investment in service delivery and community upliftment. This effort, Executive Mayor Mpe emphasized, is a proof to the municipality’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of public infrastructure for the benefit of all.
In a move that signals a shift towards greater municipal efficiency, the facility’s ongoing maintenance will be managed internally. Highlighting this decision, Cllr Mpe said: “This aligns with our broader vision of building government capacity and strengthening self-reliance. Our track record, seen in projects like the Civic Center Park and Peter Mokaba Stadium, demonstrates our ability to maintain public assets with excellence.”
With its gates now open, Nirvana Swimming Pool is set to transform community life. It will serve as a space for families, schools and aspiring athletes to connect, grow and thrive. Cllr Mpe captured the pool’s multifaceted purpose: “This facility is more than just a swimming pool. It is a space that embodies the spirit of Nirvana, a place of joy, harmony and shared progress.”
To ensure accessibility, the municipality has introduced affordable tariffs and a flexible schedule that accommodates diverse needs. The pool is set to become a cornerstone of social and physical development in Ward 19.
As the Rxecutive Mayor addressed the gathered residents, his message was clear: the pool’s reopening is not an end but a beginning. “Let us use this pool to teach our children the value of health, discipline and community,” he urged. “May it become a hub of joy, discipline and lifelong memories.”
Today, the waters of Nirvana Swimming Pool ripple with more than activity; they echo with the promise of progress and unity.
