POLOKWANE HOSTS SARPA CONVENTION

JACK BOTES HALL, POLOKWANE  – 29 August 2024 | Polokwane Executive Mayor, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, extended a warm welcome to delegates attending the 2024 South African Revenue Protection Association (SARPA) Convention held in the city. The event, which serves as a crucial platform for strategic discussions on advancing and protecting the financial sustainability of local government, was officially opened by the Executive Mayor, following an introduction by Polokwane’s Member of Mayoral Committee for Energy Services, Nomonde Sivhabu.

Cllr Mpe expressed his gratitude that such an important convention is being held in Polokwane. “We are highly appreciative that this crucial opportunity for strategic reflections on advancing and protecting the survival of the local government – revenue, is taking place in our city,” he remarked.

Executive Mayor also spoke about the city’s commitment to hosting successful events, drawing attention to the recent success of the first SALGA National Joint Sitting of Mayors and Speakers, also held in Polokwane. “I must indicate that our dedicated team of employees is hands-on to ensure that this conference is successful just as we did with other big events and conferences we have hosted,” he said.

He also pointed out the visible signs of growth in the city, which align with Polokwane’s ambition to become the first metropolitan in Limpopo. “I’m sure that as you entered the city you have noticed that Polokwane is under construction, which is a positive sign of growth and development which feeds into our aspiration to become the first metropolitan in the Limpopo Province.”

He emphasized the importance of ongoing infrastructure development in roads, water, sanitation, and public transport, alongside efforts to attract private sector investment. “We are doing our part to develop new infrastructure on roads, water, sanitation, public transport and also attracting the private sector to set up their business in the city.” He said these efforts would stimulate local economic activities and create much-needed jobs for the youth.

The Executive Mayor also stressed the city’s commitment to forging strong partnerships with the private sector, aimed at leveraging available land for further development, thereby contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of Polokwane.
