Cllr Kobela Welhemina Modiba​ 

  1. Personal and Education Profile

Cllr Modiba Kobela Welhemina was born and bred at the rural area known as Segopye Ga- Mamabolo. She attended her primary school at Maribe Primary School, thereafter went to Bjatladi Secondary School where she completed her Grade 12. She went further with her studies where she obtained a Secretarial Diploma, Certificate in Adult Basic Education and Training, Certificate in General Office Practice and recently obtained Higher Certificate in Project Management with MANCOSA.

 

  1. Political Profile

She was recruited into the African National Congress (ANC) in 1993 where she has remained an unfaltering member to this day. In 2005 to 2021 she was elected as the deputy Chairperson of the ANC Machocho Hlatswayo Branch under the leadership of Paul Mohlala. She also served as South African Communist Party (SACP) sub-regional treasurer. In 2010 to 2022 she was elected as the Secretary of the ANCWL Machocho Hlatswayo Branch and currently she is serving as the ANCWL Peter Mokaba Regional Task Team, while she is also a member of the Peter Mokaba Regional Executive Committee from 2021 to date.

 

  1. Deployment & Governance Profile

Cllr Modiba also served as a Ward Committee of Polokwane Municipality from 2008 to 2016. She was elected as proportional representative (PR) Councillor of Polokwane Municipality in 2017, where served as a member of Council, later appointed as a member of Mayoral Committee responsible for Roads, Stormwater and Transportation for a period of three (3) months before the 2021 Local Government Elections. Cllr Modiba was again elected as proportional representative (PR) after the 2021 local government elections and further elected to serve as the Council Speaker to date at the first sitting of the Council., the position she currently holds.
