POLOKWANE’S WEEKLY SAFETY BLITZ: NO NONSENSE, NO EXCUSES

The community safety team rolled up their sleeves once again for the weekly Safer Operation in the Buite section, proving that no corner of the city is off-limits when it comes to compliance. This week’s mission is sniffing out building violations, illegal water and electricity connections and ensuring businesses toe the line.

Leading the charge are Member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Safety Cllr Josef Pemma and Finance Cllr Tshepo Nkwe, who also spearheaded the Clean Polokwane operation.

Their checklist? Spaza shops, businesses and property owners skirting municipal by-laws. And let’s just say—it wasn’t pretty.

“The conditions we found in some of these buildings are deeply concerning. Many landlords are neglecting their responsibilities, and that’s simply not acceptable,” said Pemma, making it crystal clear that the city will not tolerate non-compliance.

The operation didn’t stop at buildings. A VW Polo vehicle was swiftly impounded when its driver was caught without a license (because apparently, the rules of the road are optional for some).

Meanwhile, a spaza shop was raided and shut down on the spot for selling expired goods – because food safety isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a must.

Pemma had a stern warning for all business owners: “Comply with municipal by-laws or brace yourselves – law enforcement is coming, and we won’t be playing nice.”

Polokwane is cleaning up, one operation at a time. Consider this your official notice.
