Polokwane Municipality has put in place measures to ensure that service delivery continues to be rendered during the lockdown period as announced by the State President Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa last night. The nation-wide lockdown was announced as a measure of containing the risk of further spreading of the Corona Virus or Covid-19.

The services that will continue during this period include electricity, water, sanitation, refuse removal, environmental health, traffic management, security, fire and disaster management, control centre and call centres.

The municipality has also put in place a rapid response team that includes senior managers to deal with any emergency that may arise during this period.

The municipality has taken a decision to release its staff not related to the services above by 14h00 on Tuesday, 24 March. However, the rates halls will still be open and close at 14h00 until Thursday 26 March 2020 to accommodate those who have to make their services payments.

During the 21 days lockdown period, all municipal offices and facilities including the rates halls will be closed. The municipality therefore encourages consumers to make use of Electronic Funds Transfer and EasyPay at the supermarkets to make payments. The due date for payment of services is the 25th of each month and consumers are encouraged to pay in time to avoid their services getting terminated during this testing period as the municipality will be implementing credit control measures.
