[WATCH] EXECUTIVE MAYOR CLLR MAKORO JOHN MPE – HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WARD COMMITTEE CONFERENCE

1. Job creation

Job creation remains one of key focus areas to ensure that we reduce the alarming unemployment statistics in Polokwane:
275 graduates were placed on various internship programmes
73 were placed on learnerships programme.

We have recruited a total of 100 permanent staff, of which 43 are young people:
57 employees were recruited through prioritization of graduates, wherein experience was not a requirement, but qualifications were prioritised.

In the coming week, we will be welcoming more than 100 new employees into the municipality to strengthen the current workforce.

We have further created 3090 temporary opportunities through the EPWP program using the database for the unemployed.

Polokwane is one of the few municipalities that had the opportunity to hire 2000 EPWP workers on the greening project supported by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment.

End!
