POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY REIGNS SUPREME IN MEDIA PROFILING, AGAIN

Monday, 10 February 2025 | Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape

In a moment of well-earned recognition, Polokwane Municipality has once again cemented its position as a leader in strategic communication, walking away with top honours at the prestigious 8th SALGA National Communicators’ Forum held in Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape.

The municipality was awarded for being the most media-profiled municipality in South Africa, an evidence to the tireless efforts of its Communications and Marketing team. At the helm of this success is Mr. Matshidiso Mothapo, whose leadership has propelled the team to national prominence.

Speaking on this remarkable achievement, Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe expressed immense pride and appreciation:

“We wish to congratulate the entire Communications and Marketing team for their hard work, passion, and dedication. This recognition is a reflection of their resolute commitment to profiling the good work of the municipality, ensuring that Polokwane is consistently in the spotlight for the right reasons.”

This is not the first time Polokwane has been acknowledged for its media excellence. In fact, this marks Polokwane’s second win in the same category, having previously scooped the same award during the 6th Annual SALGA Communicators’ Forum in 2023, held in Cape Town.

The suspense reached its peak during the awards ceremony when media personality Ms. Tshidi Madia took to the stage to announce the winner. With anticipation hanging thick in the air, she described the significance of the category:

“This award is for the team that profiles and promotes good stories, the team that constantly and regularly monitors the media space, responds to media queries, and strives to promote the good image of local government. I must say, this is also my personal favourite. And the winner is… Polokwane.”

A thunderous ovation erupted as Polokwane Communications and Marketing officials, Ms. Disree Manyane and Ms. Confidence Rakubu, proudly made their way to the stage, joined by Mr. Selei Makgaba of CoGHSTA Limpopo, to receive the prestigious accolade.

This milestone reinforces Polokwane Municipality’s position as a leading city in strategic media engagement. As the city continues to grow, so too does its influence in shaping narratives that inspire confidence, transparency and progress.

With such an impressive accolade now in its portfolio, Polokwane Municipality is proving that beyond governance, the power of storytelling, communication and media engagement remains pivotal in shaping the future of local government.
