POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY PUBLIC AWARENESS ON ILLEGAL OUTDOOR ADVERTISING PRACTICES


Notice is hereby given in terms of the provisions of Section 21(a) (b) of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000 read with Section 152(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. Polokwane Local Municipality would like to inform the community and stakeholders about illegal outdoor advertising practices.


What is Illegal Outdoor Advertising?


When one erects, maintains or displays a sign in a place or on a building or structure that is visible from any private properties, street, road or public place painted on or attached to a boundary wall or fence, without prior consent from the Municipality.


In terms of the provisions of the Polokwane Municipality Outdoor Advertisement By-Law, 2019, anyone who wishes to erect any outdoor advertising signage within the jurisdiction of the Municipality must obtain consent from the Municipality. Applications on both privately owned land and council land should be submitted before any sign can be erected.


How do you report an illegal advertising?


A complaint must be lodged by contacting or completing the complaint form (Schedule 21) of the Polokwane Integrated Land Use Scheme, 2022 and sending it by post or by sending an e-mail to the municipality. A complaint can also be lodged in person either by phoning, sending an e- mail, or posting a letter.


How do you legalise an advertisement?


An Outdoor Advertising Boards can be submitted at Polokwane Municipality Land Use and Planning Control Departments respectively.
